Besides homeschooling, I was lost.

As someone who has always worked, being

Locked down with no purpose was like a slow death.

And then I had an idea. And I liked it.

And the people around me liked it.

But of course, they did. I’m surrounded by cheerleaders.

So, I found an expert retailer in the area

And sent them an email.

I told them how I admired their business

And as a startup would appreciate their feedback

on my product idea.

What would their customers think? Would they buy it?

I was so excited to see their quick reply.

Until I read it.

Thanks for your email.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm, this is a tough industry.

It takes years to build a business and a wealth of experience.

I would suggest you find another business idea

On more suited to your limited knowledge.

No retail outlet will buy your product and

There is no customer demand for your product

This sounds harsh but you will fail and lose a lot of money.

This idea would make a good hobby

But it's not a product any retailer would stock.

Not.

I was shattered. This was going to be my thing.

But the stock was on the way

So nothing to lose by doing one market

And selling off whatever stock I had.

Two years later

I have 10 Retail wholesalers

I haven’t taken over the world

But I think this Summer will be very good

And my “expert” retailer?

Emailed me last week to see if they could stock my products

Because they LOVE them so much.

And could they also stock Be Bangles.

How clever I must be to have two amazing brands.

Sorry.

It’s called Karma and it's pronounced Fuck You.

I will instead approach your major competitor

And offer them my products to sell.

Not because you said no

But because you could’ve chosen to offer advice

But you chose to diminish someone’s dream.

And that’s going to cost you sales.

Be kind.

When you have a choice, choose to lift others.

Mostly because it’s the right thing to do. And you never know what the future brings.
